A BRIDGE IN JAPAN
A handsome Aussie soldier,
Came across the sea,
In answer to his nation's call,
And to fight for liberty.

His days were long and dangerous,
And his mates were by his side,
They had the pride of the Anzacs,
Many of them fell and died.

To Japan that soldier came one day,
With his Aussie mates,
And his life was changed forever,
By the path he then did take.

He didn't have to cross that bridge,
There was a way around,
But fate decreed it otherwise,
For it was there his love he found.

Her kimono was so beautiful,
Her face so small and sweet,
He couldn't help but speak to her,
That girl he had to meet.

Through years of joy,
And years of pain,
And to his long life's end,

That handsome Aussie soldier,
From across the sea,
Never forgot that little bridge,
Where he found his destiny.
I dedicate my poem to Frank and Joan (Seiko) Harrison,
with love to you George.
